Táncház Találkozó - The biggest folk fest in Europe

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

Ok, maybe it is not the biggest. But serteinly impressive. It is hold in Budapest Papp László Sport Aréna every spring. Literaly hundreds of dance groups and music bands gather together from all Hungary and the former Hungarian lands like Transylvania, Vojvodina, Szlovakia, etc. The traditions are still alive in some regions, and they show it to the public in this huge festival. Also it has a market with traditional handcrafts like pottery, clothes, instruments, and of course books, records, etc.

The show goes on many stages, and they have folk-kocsma (folk-pub) where people just drink, dance, sing, talk.

My English friends said that in a folk fest in England he would expect just man with bears, and that is not very attractive, and he was surprised by the fact that mostly young people, teenagers, twentysomethings are presented, and of course every other generations too. He was also surprised that how many nice girls were there, and asked me it it is easy to socialise. Of course it is, if u know the dances, the songs, or can play some music!

U missed the festival this year, and yes i know it would be more useful if i write about up coming events rather then what happened, but this is just a report, not a program magazine. If u van program see this Budapest Guide!
